About the art:"Libra" (Zodiac Series)
This is the 3rd of the Zodiac series I have painted, and I have to say I am in love with how she turned out. I did a post online asking for input about Libra, and I was told so many different beautiful things about her. Balance was incredibly important to a lot of people who commented, so I made sure to add the symbolic scales with a sun and a moon on either side, which also represents their light and dark sides. (Another great suggestion!) The ancient Greek mythology behind the Zodiac Libra is of the Greek Goddess of Justice, Themis, who carries the scales of justice; the symbol Libra. So I chose to portray her in a similar way as the goddess of justice is portrayed, with a sword and blindfold coming off of her face. I added in the butterfly to incorporate the Celtic animal for Libra, but also I placed it on her sword to symbolize friendliness and softness. I wanted to portray that Libra is strong with the sword in her hand, but that she allows kindness and friendship too by letting the butterfly sit upon it. In the scales on the left and right side you will find a sapphire and an opal, the birthstones for Libra. Also along the bottom of the painting are the birth flowers for September and October: Aster and Marigold. I also incorporated her constellation at the top of the piece, as well as having a few petals blowing in the wind to symbolize that Libra is an Air Sign. Whew!
